2014 Rubiton Stakes Tips and Betting Preview

The 2014 Rubiton Stakes is shaping to be one of the most hotly-contested races of the 2014 racing calendar so far, with punters giving nearly every starter a chance of claiming Group 2 honours at Caulfield this weekend.

While losing some ‘big name’ entrants to the day’s feature event – the Group 1 C.F Orr Stakes, the 2014 Rubiton Stakes will undoubtedly produce a memorably conclusion as all remaining runners fight it out for the $105,000 top prize.

Having exchanged favouritism for the 2014 Rubiton Stakes several times, Mick Price-trained stablemates Lankan Rupee and Lion of Belfort are both legitimate chances of leaving Caulfield on Saturday with a first-up Group-level victory.

1st

Lion Of Belfort ($3.20)

Classy three-year-old Lion Of Belfort recorded a memorable maiden year of racing in 2013, claiming two victories and three places in only five starts and ending his first campaign third to Zoustar in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on November 2nd. Having trialled well at Cranbourne last week, the Statue Of Liberty colt is currently offering punters incredible value at $3.20.

2nd

Lankan Rupee ($3.10)

Having drawn the ideal barrier four for the 2014 Rubiton Stakes, Lankan Rupee was the early pick for punters who snapped up opening odds of $3.50 to cut the son of Redoute’s Choice to his current quote of $3.10. Mick Price has been happy with the preparation of Lankan Rupee, and is confident he can immediately return to the form that saw three wins from four starts last spring, including the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes at Caulfield in November.

3rd

Better Than Ready ($4.40)

Queensland-based stallion Better Than Ready will be chasing his third-straight victory in the 2014 Rubiton Stakes, having closed his 2013 account with back-to-back victories that included the Listed Keith Noud Handicap (1200m). Trialling well in Brisbane on January 21st, trainer Kelly Schweida will use the Rubiton Stakes as the first point of call for the son of More Than Ready in an Autumn campaign aimed at Group 1 success in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
