2014 Expressway Stakes Betting Tips

The feature race at Royal Randwick this weekend is the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m), set to be run at the day’s sixth event on the eight race card.

While not drawing the strongest field possible, the 2014 Expressway Stakes will undoubtedly be a race to watch, with several impressive sprinters from the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival returning for their first event of 2014, including Boban.

Boban has been the undoubted pick of punters for the 2014 Expressway Stakes; registering as one of the best backed runners for any event nation-wide on Saturday. Leading trainer Chris Waller has been happy with the form shown by his star miler since returning to the track in a January barrier trial as Rosehill, ahead of what is shaping as a busy season.

Boban ($2.60)

The Bernardini gelding was undoubtedly the formed runner in the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, claiming five wins from as many starts that included the Group 1 Star Epsom Handicap (1600m) and Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m). Despite Waller revealing the talented four-year-old did not react particularly favourably to the spelling paddock, Boban will be extremely hard to beat and worth every cent of his current $2.60 quote.

Speediness ($6.50)

Six-year-old gelding Speediness narrowly missed maiden success at Group 1 level when beaten to the post by Boban in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes at the end of the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, however currently represents excellent value at $6.50 of upsetting his in-form foe. Despite drifting slightly from $5.50, trainer Colin Scott is convinced Speediness is raring to go and is capable of a big race first-up.

Sizzling ($13)

Following a relatively disappointing 2013 Spring campaign, four-year old Sizzling was transferred to the care of leading trainer Chris Waller from the Queensland stables of Kelso Wood. Having claimed seven wins from 21 competitive starts, Sizzling appears to be in prime form to cause serious headaches to his Expressway Stakes opponents after trialling well throughout January.
