Earthquake Backed for Blue Diamond Fillies Success

Talented two-year-old Earthquake has opened as clear favourite for the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude for Fillies (1100m), with punters expecting the young sprinter to build on her so-far perfect career record.

Having lined up for only one competitive start; a comfortable victory over Sheer Style in the Colin Pearce 100th Birthday Plate (1000m) at Randwick in November, Earthquake has been a leading contender for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on February 22nd and further boosted her claim with a good piece of work over 800m at a Cranbourne barrier trial last week.

Despite losing regular partner Kerrin McEvoy to a lingering knee injury earlier this week, in-form jockey Damian Browne has been confirmed for the ride, who should have no issue guiding the young Exceed And Excel filly to the front from barrier five.

After claiming the Listed Blue Diamond Preview for Fillies at Caulfield two weeks ago, two-year-old Eloping ($7) will enter the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude from barrier three.

The Choisir filly is beginning to make a name as an up and coming sprinter to watch, having claimed both starts to date, as well as an opening barrier trial at Tatura in December.

Featuring as the only other single-figured runner for the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude for Filles currently is half-sister to Eloping, Top Dolly ($8).

Ridden brilliantly by retained jockey Craig Williams to second in the Group 3 7 News Stakes on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington, the Choisir filly will be against the odds from the outset having drawn the wide barrier, and will need re-find a similar path if any chance.

Carrying winning form into the Blue Diamond Prelude, Top Sight is so far not a pick with punters, who have left the daughter of Bon Hoffer alone at her generous starting price of $19.

Top Sight impressed trainer Ciaron Maher at a Sandown barrier trial last week, and will be in prime position when jumping from barrier four.

Of the eleven runners confirmed for the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude for Fillies, only Snitsnbits ($101 at Ladbrokes.com.au) has been offered little hope of a successful run.
