Boban Favourite In 2014 Expressway Stakes Betting Markets

Dual Group 1 winner Boban has been well backed in 2014 Expressway StakesĀ betting markets and is a clear favourite to record his sixth straight victory in the Group 2 event at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Boban opened at odds of $3 in the Expressway Stakes, but that price was quickly snapped up and the son of Bernardini is now available at a quote of $2.70 and has been one of the biggest market movers on the Royal Randwick card.

The four-year-old has only recorded one first-up victory, but has been a new horse since joining the stable of Chris Waller and the leading trainer is confident that he can start his autumn preparation with a win this weekend.

Rain Affair ($4.40) failed to fire during his 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign, apart from a five and a half lengths romp first-up in the Group 3 Missile Stakes (1200m), but has been well supported to score his second win in the Expressway Stakes after defeating Centennial Park and Shoot Out to win the 2012 edition of the race.

Trainer Joseph Pride expects Rain Affair to improve as he gets further into his autumn preparation, but the speedy sprinter generally performs well fresh and could prove difficult to catch this weekend.

Speediness was narrowly denied a maiden Group 1 victory by Boban in the Emirates Stakes (1600m) last year and punters currently rate the six-year-old a chance of turning the tables on Boban at Randwick this weekend.

The son of Testa Rossa has been a slight drifter in 2014 Expressway Stakes betting markets (out to $6.50 after opening at $5.50), but according to trainer Colin Scott is ready to run a big race first-up.

There has also been a sprinkling of support for talented mare Appearance, who is now into 2014 Expressway Stakes odds of $9.50 after opening at $11.

The 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign of Appearance was plagued by injuries that restricted her to only two starts, but trainer Guy Walter believes that the daughter of Commands is back to the form that saw her win the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) during the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Darley gelding Pinwheel ($10), talented sprinter Howmuchdoyouloveme ($11), new Waller acquisition Sizzling ($13) and Her Majesty The Queen Of England-owned Carlton House ($14) have also received some support from punters in 2014 Expressway Stakes betting markets.
