Capacity 2014 Blue Diamond Colts And Geldings Prelude Field Released

Exciting colt Rubick will face a capacity 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude (Colts And Geldings) field of fifteen other runners when he returns to the races at Caulfield this Saturday.

Rubick stamped himself as a leading contender for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) with a dominant seven and a half lengths win in a barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens on January 7 and made his racing debut with a comfortable win in the TAB IPhone APP Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on January 25.

The Encosta De Lago colt was the big winner from the Blue Diamond Prelude barrier draw and will jump from barrier two with regular jockey Brenton Avdulla on board this weekend.

Another horse that has drawn well in the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude field is Peter Snowden-trained Mohave who will jump from barrier six with Damian Browne on board – replacing Kerrin McEvoy who is sitting out the Caulfield meeting on Saturday due to injury.

Mohave made his racing debut with a second place finish behind Golden Slipper contender Law in the Listed New South Wales Thoroughbreds Breeders Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on October 5 and returned to the races with a comfortable win in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on January 25.

While Rubick and Mohave both had their winning chances enhanced by the Blue Diamond Prelude barrier draw, Mark Kavanagh-trained Chivalry (barrier 16) and debut winner Nostradamus (barrier 18) will both need plenty of luck after drawing poorly.

Chivalry was well-backed heading into his racing debut in the Leadwest Plate (1000m) at Flemington on December 14, but was upset by I Am The General before recording his maiden race win in the Quest Moonee Valley Plate (1000m) at Moonee Valley on December 28 – despite being blocked for a run in the straight.

Team Hawkes-trained Nostradamus is a half-brother to 2010 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Star Witness and justified the support of punters with a comfortable win on debut in the Nursery Plate (1100m) at Flemington on January 18.

Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes has an extremely high opinion of the son of Medaglia D’Oro, but said that he wants to see the two-year-old back-up his impressive debut performance with another strong effort on Saturday.

Other interesting runners in the 2014 Blue Diamond Colts And Geldings Prelude final field are: Magic Millions runner Geromayo (barrier nine), the undefeated Duckworth (barrier eight), debutant Pure Addiction(barrier 14) and talented but green Silent Whisper (barrier one).
