Earthquake Headlines 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude Fillies Nominations

Darley filly Earthquake will return to the races in the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude Fillies (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday after being included in the nominations for the Group 3 event.

Earthquake stamped herself as a contender for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) with a comfortable two and a half lengths win over Sheer Style and Headwater Country in the Colin Pearce 100th Birthday Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on November 9 and was sent straight for a stint in the spelling paddock by trainer Peter Snowden.

The Exceed And Excel made her first public appearance in a barrier trial at Cranbourne on January 30 and finished a narrow second behind More Radiant.

Darley’s Melbourne stable foreman Paul Snowden said that he was happy with the barrier trial performance and believes that the two-year-old had taken plenty of benefit out of the hit-out.

“We didn’t want her to have a gut buster, she did it within herself and she ran time,” Snowden told TVN.

“She had a good blow and that’s why she will do a bit of work again tomorrow.

“I think she has gone on from the trial, she is eating well and everything points towards there on Saturday and ticking another box.”

The biggest competition to Earthquake is expected to come from Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison-trained Eloping, who has performed well in her two career starts to date.

Eloping made her debut with an impressive two and a half lengths win over Tudor and Jarklin in the BJC Members Celebration Maiden (900m) at Bendigo on December 22 and stepped-up in class to score a strong win in the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on January 25.

The Choisir filly will face Lumosty and Golconda again on Saturday; with both fillies included in the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude Fillies nominations.

Only 12 horses were entered for the Group 3 event and nominations have been extended until tomorrow morning.

Snowden and the Darley operation are chasing their second straight win in the Blue Diamond Prelude Fillies after taking out the 2013 edition of the race with classy filly Guelph.

Group 1 racing is back at Caulfield this weekend so there has never been a better time to sign-up and deposit with Ladbrokes.com.au!
