Arinosa Included In 2014 Bellmaine Stakes Nominations

Talented mare Arinosa is set to return to the races in the 2014 Bellmaine Stakes after being included in the nominations for the Group 3 event.

Arinosa has been included in the nominations for both the Bellmaine Stakes in Melbourne and the Expressway Stakes in Sydney.

Arinosa had just three starts during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival and generally performed well, winning the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 5 and finishing second in the Group 3 Lavazza Short Black (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup, but failed to fire when stepped up to Group 1 level for the Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 25.

The Dash For Cash mare has been given two quiet barrier trials in Sydney in the past fortnight and remains a chance to return to Group 1 level for the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 8.

Leading Melbourne trainer Peter Moody won the 2013 edition of the Bellmaine Stakes with There’s Only One and he has the opportunity to win the race for the second year in a row when A Time For Julia contests the Group 3 event.

A Time For Julia raced consistently during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, but was unable to break through for a race win; finishing second in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m), third in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m), fifth in the Group 3 Mares Sprint (1200m) and eleventh in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m).

Arguably the most interesting runner in the 2014 Bellmaine Stakes nominations is veteran mare Power Princess, who will make her Melbourne racing debut after joining the stable of Mick Price.

Power Princess has done the majority of her racing in Perth, winning at Group level on three occasions, and was far from disgraced in three starts during the Perth Summer Racing Carnival; finishing second in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m), sixth in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) and third in the Group 3 Scahill Stakes.

Other interesting gallopers in the 2014 Bellmaine Stakes nominations include: Neville Parnham-trained Bippo No Bungus, veteran mare Hi Belle, last start winner You Can Dance and Robbie Griffiths-trained Prettyhappyaboutit.
