2014 Kevin Hayes Stakes Nominations – Bound For Earth Set To Return

Classy filly Bound For Earth headlines the nominations for the 2014 Kevin Hayes Stakes that will take place at Caulfield on Saturday.

Bound For Earth was the only horse to beat Guelph during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival and is set to return to the races in the Kevin Hayes Stakes this weekend.

Bound For Earth has recorded two wins from seven starts and has a handicap rating of 91 – vastly superior to the 13 other fillies that have been included in the nominations for the Group 3 event.

The daughter of Northern Meteor performed well during her maiden campaign in Brisbane and started her 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with an upset win over champion filly Guelph in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on September 7.

Guelph was able to turn-the-tables on Bound For Earth in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and the John O’Shea-trained three-year-old finished behind the Darley superstar in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) and the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).

The next highest rated filly in the 2014 Kevin Hayes Stakes nominations is Michael Kent-trained Marianne, who has performed well in her four race starts to date.

Marianne recorded her maiden race win with a dominant victory in the Yarra Valley Estate Maiden (1200m) at Cranbourne on August 11 and made it two wins from as many starts in the LUCRF Jockeys Trust Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on August 31.

The Darci Brahma filly finished second behind Gregers in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) on September 21 and Kent elected to send her to the spelling paddock rather than press on to the Thousand Guineas.

The majority of horses included in the 2014 Kevin Hayes Stakes nominations will be returning from a spell, but the lightly-raced Shamalia has already had two starts this campaign.

Shamalia made her racing debut with a comfortable win in the TAB IPhone App Plate (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Boxing Day and scored another impressive victory in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1300m) on the Randwick Kensington track on January 8.

Team Cummings have included the daughter of Shamardal in the nominations for the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 1 and she will be ridden by Damien Oliver in the Kevin Hayes Stakes this weekend.
