2014 Chairman’s Stakes Tips
1st Illustrious Lad ($12)
Illustrious Lad was very impressive on debut and is currently available at the attractive odds of $12 to make it two wins from as many starts. Both trainer Peter Gelagotis and jockey Craig Newitt are both very bullish about the I Am Invincible colt’s chances in this race and he represents one of the best value runners on the entire Caulfield card.
2nd Bugatty ($5.50)
Bugatty did plenty wrong on his racing debut at Moonee Valley when beaten by the talented Chivalry, but produced a more professional performance in the Better Beyond Plate (1000m) at Flemington on January 11. Team Hawkes-trained juveniles have performed strongly already this year and he should get a nice run into the race from barrier two.
3rd Eqdaam ($5.50)
Eqdaam will be making his first public appearance at the races and there is plenty of hype around the son of Choisir. Trainer Mick Price is not one to talk up his horses, but has an extremely high opinion of the two-year-old and he remains in Blue Diamond Stakes contention.
