2014 Chairman’s Stakes Tips And Betting Preview

The Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) is only three weeks away and a number of exciting juveniles are starting to arrive on the scene ahead of the $1 million event; with several talented two-year-olds including in the final field for the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes this weekend.

A number of exciting horses have won the Chairman’s Stakes in the past decade, including 2010 Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, and there is a chance that a new Group 1 contender could be unearthed in the race this weekend.

The current favourite in 2014 Chairman’s Stakes betting market is Gai Waterhouse-trained Nayeli ($3.20) and there has always been some support for debutant Eqdaam ($5.50) and Team Hawkes-trained Bugatty ($5.50).

This is a very interesting betting race and to save you the hard work our team of horse racing experts have studied the complete form guide to come up with the our 2014 Chairman’s Stakes betting tips.

2014 Chairman’s Stakes Form Guide Facts And Betting Statistics

  • The 2013 Chairman’s Stakes was won by Peter Snowden-trained Metastasio who was ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.
  • Neither McEvoy nor Snowden are involved in the 2014 edition of the Chairman’s Stakes.
  • Eqdaam, Tashbeeh and Tahni Dancer are all making their racing debuts.
  • Bugatty, Illustrious Lad and Nayeli are all last start winners.
  • Jarklin is the only horse in the field that has previously raced over this distance.
  • Zululand finished second on debut at Caulfield.
  • Every horse in the Chairman’s Stakes field is making their debut at Group level.

2014 Chairman’s Stakes Tips

1st Illustrious Lad ($12)

Illustrious Lad was very impressive on debut and is currently available at the attractive odds of $12 to make it two wins from as many starts. Both trainer Peter Gelagotis and jockey Craig Newitt are both very bullish about the I Am Invincible colt’s chances in this race and he represents one of the best value runners on the entire Caulfield card.

2nd Bugatty ($5.50)

Bugatty did plenty wrong on his racing debut at Moonee Valley when beaten by the talented Chivalry, but produced a more professional performance in the Better Beyond Plate (1000m) at Flemington on January 11. Team Hawkes-trained juveniles have performed strongly already this year and he should get a nice run into the race from barrier two.

3rd Eqdaam ($5.50)

Eqdaam will be making his first public appearance at the races and there is plenty of hype around the son of Choisir. Trainer Mick Price is not one to talk up his horses, but has an extremely high opinion of the two-year-old and he remains in Blue Diamond Stakes contention.
