2014 Chairman’s Stakes Betting Update

A number of talented two-year-olds will meet in the Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday and there is very little separating the leading contenders in the betting market for the Group 3 event.

Gai Waterhouse-trained Nayeli is currently the favourite in Chairman’s Stakes betting markets, at odds of $3.10, after recording an impressive win on debut in the ATC Membership On Sale Now Maiden (1000m) at Randwick on January 8.

The More Than Ready filly is owned by Greg Kolivos, of Pierro fame, and Waterhouse believes that the two-year-old has the talent to be competitive in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) and the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).

On the second line of 2014 Chairman’s Stakes betting markets is Mick Price-trained debutant Eqdaam who has not been seen in an official barrier trial.

Eqdaam is by Choisir from Regal Fun and is available at Chairman’s Stakes odds of $4.80 to make a winning debut this weekend.

Bugatty ($5.50) has been well-backed in 2014 Chairman’s Stakes betting markets after showing plenty of talent in his two race starts to date.

The Dreamscape colt did plenty wrong in his racing debut in the Quest Moonee Valley Plate (1000m) at Moonee Valley on December 28, but still managed to finish second behind Blue Diamond Stakes contender Chivalry and he recorded his maiden race win in the Better Beyond Plate (1000m) at Flemington on January 11.

David Hayes-trained Zululand will be returning to the races for the first time since November on Saturday and is currently on the fourth line of betting at Chairman’s Stakes odds of $8.50.

Zululand made his racing debut with a second place finish behind Nordic Empire in the Flemington Equine Clinic Plate (1000m) at Caulfield on November 30 and arguably should have finished closer to the winner after being inconvenienced at the 400 metre mark.

The only other horse in the Chairman’s Stakes field that is currently available at odds of less than $10 is John Sadler-trained Coram ($9), who finished fifth behind Silversands in his racing debut in the Inglis Banner (1000m) at Moonee Valley on October 26.
