Talented Juveniles Included In 2014 Chairman’s Stakes Field

Debut winners Illustrious Lad and Nayeli will do battle in the Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday after being included in the final field for the Group 3 event.

Illustrious Lad (barrier ten) bucked at the start of his racing debut in the Boxing Day Family Races Plate (1000m) at Morphettville Parks on December 21, but was still good enough to record a comfortable victory from Manhattan Prince and Lotion.

Leading Melbourne jockey Craig Newitt has been booked to pick up the ride on Illustrious Lad and he believes that the I Am Invincible colt is good enough to maintain his undefeated record and potentially press on to the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).

“He looks a really nice horse,” Newitt told Sky Racing HQ this morning.

“He did a fair bit wrong in Adelaide, but still got the job done.

“I am expecting him to go there and get the job done.

“He may end up in a Blue Diamond.”

Standing in the way of Illustrious Lad will be Gai Waterhouse-trained Nayeli (barrier four) who made her racing debut with a two lengths victory over Peggy Jean and Annatime in the ATC Membership On Sale Handicap (1000m) on January 8.

The form out of that race was franked when Peggy Jean upset Boomwaa to win the Inglis Classic (1200m) at Royal Randwick just over a week ago and Nayeli has been included in the nominations for all the major two-year-old races during the autumn.

The only other runner in the 2014 Chairman’s Stakes field who is taking winning form into the race is Team Hawkes-trained Bugatty (barrier two).

Bugatty did plenty wrong when he finished second behind Mark Kavanagh-trained Chivalry in the Quest Moonee Valley Plate (1000m) on December 28 and laid out in the middle stages, but was still able to win the Better Beyond Plate (1000m) at Flemington on January 11.

Eqdaam (barrier 11), Tashbeeh (barrier 9) and Tahni Dancer (barrier 7) will all be making their racing debuts in the 2014 Chairman’s Stakes.

The 2014 Melbourne Festival Of Racing is just around the corner and the best place to bet on all the major races is Ladbrokes.com.au.

Sign-up and deposit at the leading online bookie to receive a free bet worth up to $250 that can be used to back the winner of the Chairman’s Stakes or any other race this weekend!
