Excelorada Included In 2014 W.J. Adams Stakes Final Field

Talented Perth sprinter Excelorada will make his Melbourne racing debut on Saturday after being included in the Listed 2014 W.J. Adams Stakes final field.

Excelorada has recorded ten wins from 26 race starts in Western Australia and did enough to earn a trip to Melbourne with consistent performances in the Listed Crawford Stakes (1000m), Listed Summer Scorcher (1000m) and Listed Scenic Blast Stakes (1100m) during the Perth Summer Racing Carnival.

Trainer Neville Parnham has planned on bringing the son of Exceed And Excel to Melbourne for almost 12 months and is hopeful that the speedster has the talent required to compete at Group level on the Eastern seaboard.

I was going to do this last year with him, but he chipped a knee just before I was ready to take him over,” Parnham told Racing Victoria

“The races I had in mind were all very small fields last year and it would have been nice to have had a crack at them, but he’s had a good spell and he’s come back well.

“He’s taken a few runs to find his best form but he’s had an interrupted preparation one way or another.

“He’s going really well and I think the time’s right to have a crack and see if he’s good enough.”

Excelorada (barrier two) will need to be at his very best to be competitive against a strong 2014 W.J. Adams Stakes final field that includes a number of talented sprinters that will be returning to the races for the first time since the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.

African Pulse (barrier three) missed the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival and will be returning to the races for the first time since he finished fifth at Caulfield on April 20 last year.

The Johannesburg entire will be defending his exceptional first-up record of five wins from as many starts fresh.

Another exciting speedster who is undefeated first-up is Robert Smerdon-trained Shamal Wind, who will be returning to the races for the first time since she finished second behind Dystopia in the Group 3 Mumm Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on Crown Oaks Day.

Shamal Wind has not recorded a win at black type level since she took out the 2012 Heritage Stakes, but has gone close on a number of occasions; finishing second in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) as well as second in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m).

Robbie Laing has included Lord Of The Sky in the 2014 W.J. Adams Stakes final field and the Danerich colt will be on trial for the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 22.

Lord Of The Sky proved his quality with a dominant three and a half lengths win over Monkstone in the Procal Dairies Handicap (1000m) at Caulfield on July 13 and has returned to the races with two impressive wins in the National Patient Transport Handicap (1000m) and the Guinot International Handicap (1000m) at Caulfield.

Other interesting runners included in the 2014 W.J. Adams Stakes final field are veteran sprinter Esprit De Bullet (barrier four), Kensington Stakes winner General Truce (barrier one) and Peter Moody-trained Kiss A Rose (barrier ten).

The 2014 W.J. Adams Stakes looks like being a very open betting race and you can find the best odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Sign-up and deposit before this weekend to receive a free bet worth up to $250 that can be used to back the winner of any major race!
