Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Talented colt Fast ‘N’ Rocking will jump from barrier 1 when he carries the equal top-weight of 58.5kg in the Group 3 2014 Manfred Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Fast ‘N’ Rocking will be returning to the races for the first time since he finished at the tail of the field in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) and is chasing just the second race win of his career following his win in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes at Caulfield on August 31 last year.
Robbie Griffiths-trained The Quarterback will also carry 58.5kg, but did not fare as well in the 2014 Manfred Stakes barrier draw and will jump from the outside barrier with regular jockey Matthew Allen on board.
The Quarterback failed to fire on debut at Geelong in June last year, but recorded two wins from as many starts during his spring preparation; winning the Bairnsdale Plate (1200m) in dominant fashion on October 15 before taking out the Inglis Trophy (1400m) at Sale on October 27.
The other horse taking winning form into the 2014 Manfred Stakes is Hard Stride (barrier five), who returned to the races with a narrow win over Tansy and Remerged at Werribee on January 12.
The Street Sense gelding will be making his debut at Group level and he will need to step up significantly, but his form was franked when Tansy won at Stony Creek by a dominant seven lengths yesterday.
Damien Oliver had the choice of riding Gai Waterhouse-trained Bull Point (barrier four) and talented colt Prince Harada (barrier six) in the 2014 Manfred Stakes and he elected to partner the exciting Waterhouse colt.
Bull Point did plenty wrong in his maiden racing campaign, missing the start in the majority of his race appearances, but produced a staggering performance to finish third in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) despite missing the start and losing contact with the field in the early stages of the race.
Prince Harada promised plenty at the start of his 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign, but was unable to break through for a win in his three starts.
The son of Haradasun was hampered in the final stages of the McNeil Stakes when second behind Fast ‘N’ Rocking and was checked one again when fifth behind Zoustar in the Golden Rose before ending his campaign with a sixth place finish in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
Mick Price is the only trainer with multiple runners in the 2014 Manfred Stakes final field; with both Resistant and Worth A Ransom set to begin their autumn campaigns in the Group 3 event.
Resistant will be returning to the races for the first time since she finished eighth behind Rockford in The Inglis Bonus Handicap (1700m) at Caulfield on September 21, while Worth A Ransom was sent to the spelling paddock after finishing at the tail of the field in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m).
Rounding out the 2014 Manfred Stakes final field is $1 million colt Monkstone who will jump from barrier seven with Peter Moody’s stable jockey Luke Nolen on board.
