Evergreen gelding Esprit De Bullet has been included in the nominations for the Listed W.J. Adams Stakes (1000m) that will be run at Caulfield on Saturday.
Esprit De Bullet has been set a for a tilt at the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Handicap (1000m) at Flemington on February 15 after an impressive summer campaign that included wins in the City Jeep Compass Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley on November 23 and the Red Tempo Handicap (1000m) at Flemington on December 21.
Trainer John Hyam has been delighted with the form of Esprit De Bullet and believes that the son of Bel Esprit has an excellent chance of recording his second straight win in the W.J. Adams Stakes this weekend.
“The horse is great,” Hyam told TVN.
“He’s working better than he ever has which is amazing considering what he has done and his age.
“His sectionals at the end of that race at Flemington when he won were just fantastic, so we’ll definitely be coming for the race on Saturday and I’d say we’ll be back for the Lightning Stakes as well.”
Esprit De Bullet will have to be at his very best in the W.J. Adams Stakes; with a number of talented sprinters included in the nominations for the Listed event.
Pocket rocket Shamal Wind is set to return to the races for the first time since her consistent 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign.
Shamal Wind started her spring preparation with a win in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield on September 21 and finished fifth second-up in the Group 3 Sprint Series Final (1200m) on October 12.
The Dubawi mare was blocked for a run when second behind Spirit Of Boom in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m) on October 19 and had no luck when finishing her campaign with strong efforts in the Group 2 Yellowglen Stakes (1200m) and the Group 3 Mumm Stakes (1100m) at Flemington.
Trainer Robert Smerdon is yet to decide on the autumn target for Shamal Wind, but she has been included in the nominations for the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) that will be run at Flemington on March 8.
The Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m) that was run at Flemington on January 18 is set to be the key form guide for the W.J. Adams Stakes; with winner General Truce, Stephen Theodore-trained Don’t Get Excited, runner-up Pocket Rockets and veteran gelding First Command all set to back-up in the $120,000 race this weekend.
Other interesting horses included in the 2014 W.J. Adams Stakes this weekend are: the resuming African Pulse, talented colt Lord Of The Sky, Peter Moody-trained Kiss A Rose, Perth galloper Excelorada and speedster Words Are Weapons.
