Team Hawkes-trained Invisible will miss the entire 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival after fracturing his splint bone during the running of the 2014 Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Invisible was well-backed heading into the Magic Millions Classic, following an impressive debut win over Jetwings in the TAB Ipad App Plate (1200m) at Canterbury on December 28, and ran home fairly to finish eighth in the $2 million event last weekend.
The All American colt was considered a chance for both the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) and the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m), but will not run again as a two-year-old; with the injury expected to keep him away from racing until at least the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.
“He will be out for six months, you won’t see him again until the spring and that’s if everything goes right,” Hawkes told TVN.
“It’s bad luck for the owners and it’s disappointing, but you have to move on.
“There’s nothing we can do about it.
“All those people who said he went no good in the Magic Millions now know why.”
Invisible will not be the only Magic Millions Classic runner that will not be seen during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival; with trainer Danny Bougoure revealing that Oakleigh Girl will not return to the races during the spring.
Oakleigh Girl made her racing debut with a narrow win in the Group 3 7News Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day before taking out the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1010m) at Doomben on December 14.
The Snitzel filly suffered her first defeat when she finished fourth behind Unencumbered in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on December 28 and was once again bested by the classy colt in the Magic Millions Classic.
Oakleigh Girl looked like an ideal type for the Golden Slipper, but Bougoure has elected to save the classy filly for three-year-old races during the 2014 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
The 2014 Golden Slipper betting market is currently available at Ladbrokes.com.au; with Darley filly Earthquake ($5.50) a narrow favourite from Magic Millions Classic winner Unencumbered ($6.50).
