Eurozone To Gallop Between Races At Royal Randwick

Talented colt Eurozone will gallop between races at Royal Randwick on Saturday, rather than contest a barrier trial at the same venue on Thursday.

Eurozone finished his 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a win in the Stan Fox Stakes.

Eurozone was included in the acceptances for the open trial over 1050 metres and the three-year-old colts and geldings trial over 740 metres but, with neither trial taking place on the course proper, James Cummings asked the Australian Turf Club for permission to gallop the three-year-old on the main track at Randwick this weekend.

“We fully understand the club is under constraints with the up-coming meetings, thankfully even though we couldn’t get the course proper or the Kensington track for a trial, the ATC has been excellent in considering our needs and they understand the importance of the top tier horses and they are looking after us as long time tenants,” Cummings told TVN this morning.

“They have agreed to allow us to have a course proper gallop in between races on Saturday and we will be galloping Eurozone with a promising maiden Benedire, who is coming off the back of two trial wins at Rosehill.

“Cummings and Cummings are over the moon with the mutual respect shown by the ATC, it is the sort of co-operation that leads to successful carnivals and hopefully this positive result leads to good karma with this horse’s preparation.”

Eurozone made his racing debut with a narrow win over Suit in the Become An ATC Sponsor Plate (1100m) at Canterbury on June 19 before beating Bull Point and Wouldn’t It Be Nice in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens (1200m) on July 6.

The Northern Meteor colt stepped up to Listed level in The Rosebud (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 10 and recorded an impressive victory over Dissident, but failed to fire when eighth behind Va Pensiero in the Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 31.

Eurozone made his Group 1 debut in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) and was far from disgraced, finishing sixth behind Zoustar, and finished his spring campaign with a narrow win over Criterion in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 28.

Cummings is yet to decide on a 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival target for Eurozone, but he may return to the races in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 15.
