Sweet Idea drifted in 2014 Magic Millions Guineas betting markets after drawing barrier fifteen at the barrier draw for the $1 million event on Monday, but jockey James McDonald was able to get the Snitzel filly in a good position in the early stages of the race.

Horses have struggled to win on the inside of the Gold Coast track this afternoon but Sweet Idea was able to prove the exception and record a one length win from emergency Estonian Princess and pre-race favourite Enquare.

It has been a busy week for Waterhouse, who had her exclusive training agreement with Star Thoroughbreds ended by Denise Martin last Sunday, and the leading lady of Australian racing was delighted to have scored yet another feature race winner.

“It has been interesting that the last three horses have been won by the best three horses in the race,” Waterhouse said.

“This is a very, very good filly and she will keep improving.

“She has got amazing speed and she can sustain it; we saw it at Wyong, we saw it in the Golden Slipper and now we have seen it again.

“Not only was she a brilliant two-year-old, but she has come back a brilliant three-year-old.”

Jockey James McDonald narrowly missed out on winning the 2013 edition of the Magic Millions Classic with Sweet Idea and was delighted to have recorded his second straight victory with the classy filly this afternoon.

“She is a tough filly and Gai is a freak, she just gets them ready on the day,” McDonald said after the race.

“I got a really soft sectional for a furlong and a half coming around the bend and I let her slide.

“She did it very easy and I had them off the bridle and she was just too good.

“We ran second in the $2 million race last year and we have gone one better.”
