Magic Millions Guineas Betting Tips 2014

The second biggest race of the Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day this Saturday is the 2014 Magic Millions Guineas for three-year-olds, the team’s insider tips and betting selections for which are detailed below.

This year’s $820,000 Gold Coast $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) is set to run as Race 5 at 2:55pm (AEST) and features a capacity field of hopefuls.

Heading the Magic Millions Guineas betting odds at a current quote of $4.60 is the Jason McLachlan-trained Sunshine Coast galloper Enquare.

Drawn ideally in gate two the Stratum filly is undefeated in her past four runs, most recently winning the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben a fortnight ago.

She’s also proven over the 1400m having won a Listed race over the distance at Eagle Farm during the winter.

So with the right lead-up, the nice strike-rate, form over the distance and gun draw the only query is the track.

She had the one start at the Gold Coast back in May but finished a distant 10th in the only bad run of her career from a horror gate.

There are only three other runners in the Magic Millions Guineas field also under $10 in the latest markets with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Wyong Magic Millions Stakes winner Sweet Idea ($4.80) out wide in 15, the resuming Charlie Boy ($8) and Waterhouse’s other runner Northern Glory ($9).

So should you stick to these hopes when placing your bets? Or is there value to be found further down the markets from a runner such as Gold Edition Plate winner Into The Red ($14), the Peter Moody-trained Wyong MM Stakes runner-up Weinholt ($11) or even David Hayes’ last start Flemington winner Gracious Prospect ($21)?

#10 Sweet Idea ($4.80)

She’s drawn a nasty gate out wide in 15 but banking on class to get Waterhouse’s filly over the line here. Resumed with a nice Wyong MM win beating a number of these including Weinholt (2nd) on December 19 and will be fitter for that run. Group 2 winner in Sydney as a juvenile and third in the Golden Slipper behind Overreach back in April was a cracking effort that she can reproduced here.

#12 Enquare ($4.60)

She might have failed at the Gold Coast last time but with a far better barrier here there’s lots to like about this favourite. It’s going to be a close finish is our guess and she’ll be fighting until the final stride shooting for her fifth consecutive win. Hard to knock the form, but gut says she’s going to come up second best behind the Sydney raider.

#2 Into The Red (

Big winner in the barrier draw coming up with the rails and with the right sort of run can really make that work for them. Won a black type over 1200m at Doomben two back before a credible third at the Gold Coast on January 4. On a short back-up but they’re deserving of a chance. Last time over 1400m was a dead last in the Group 1 Golden Rose but weren’t up to that class then, are improved and this is easier.
