Tamariz Included In 2014 Magic Millions Stayers Cup Final Field

Lightly-raced stayer Tamariz will face the biggest challenge of his racing career when he takes on a capacity field in the Magic Millions Stayers CupĀ (1800m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Tamariz has had just six race starts since winning on debut at Kembla Grange last year and has performed well since making his return to racing in December.

The Tiger Hill gelding finished third behind Absolutelyanything and Intimate Moment in the TAB Rewards Handicap (1550m) at Canterbury on December 4 before recording a dominant five lengths victory at the same venue on December 18.

Tamariz will need to be at his very best in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup to give trainer Gai Waterhouse his third straight victory in the race this weekend; with a number of consistent gallopers as well as a past winner of the event included in the final field.

Liam Birchley-trained Pepperwood will be having the 76th start of his incredible career in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup and is chasing his second win in the event after taking out the 2009 edition of the race.

The nine-year-old made a slow start to his summer campaign but returned to his best form with a third place finish behind Scorpio Queen and Essington in the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1625m) at Toowoomba on December 31.

Scorpio Queen will also be backing up in the 2014 Magic Millions Stayers Cup and trainer Les Kelly is full of confidence after the Choisir mare recorded her first race win in well over a year in the Listed event on the new track at Toowoomba last week.

The five-year-old has an excellent record on the Gold Coast, having previously won the Glenzeil Handicap (1200m) and Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m), at the track and is expected to be well-backed in the lead-up to the race.

The only other horse taking winning form into the 2014 Magic Millions Stayers Cup is Black Jet who will be chasing his third straight victory, in what will be the biggest test of his racing career this weekend.

Black Jet has recorded five wins from ten career starts and has taken out the Stephen Ferguson Handicap (1660m) at Doomben on December 18 and the Carlton Draught Plate (1630m) at the same venue on December 28 since starting his summer campaign.

The 2014 Magic Millions Stayers Cup is expected to be a very open betting race and good odds will be available on all the leading contenders with Ladbrokes.com.au.

New customers who sign-up and deposit at Ladbrokes.com.au this weekend will receive a free bet worth up to $250, which can set-up a weekend of punting nicely!
