Magic Millions Guineas 2014 Barrier Draw – Sweet Idea Out Wide

Gai Waterhouse’s talented Snitzel filly Sweet Idea has work to do if she’s to salute for the punters in Saturday’s 2014 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas at the Gold Coast after the pre-barrier draw favourite drew awkwardly in gate 15.

A total 21 final acceptors make up the official line-up for this year’s Gold Coast $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) with 16 assured runners and five emergencies.

Heading Magic Millions Guineas betting earlier in the week was Sweet Idea who at best will come into gate 11 if the first four emergencies come out on the weekend.

Sweet Idea was runner-up in the lucrative Magic Millions Classic on this day 12 months ago during her juvenile season that also included a Group 2 Silver Slipper win and a nice third to her since retired stablemate Pierro in the Golden Slipper.

She returned to racing having had just one run between the Slipper and her first-up run last December with a victory in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes (1200m) where she was ridden by James McDonald.

McDonald retains the ride for Saturday but after having things their way from the inside alley at Wyong they’re going to have to be at their best here.

The market mover after the barriers were drawn this morning meanwhile is Enquare who has come up with an ideal gate two starting position.

Jason McLachlan’s Stratum filly from the Sunshine Coast has won her past four races including thee black types in Brisbane.

Two back she won the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) and improved on that last time out on December 28 at Doomben to make it a Group 3 trophy in the Vo Rogue Plate (1350m).

Other gallopers with good draws then include recent Kelso Wood’s Gold Edition winner Into The Red (1), Weinholt (6) for Peter Moody who was runner-up to Sweet Idea in the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes and Waterhouse’s other runner Northern Glory (8).

Another top fancy out wide along with Sweet Idea meanwhile is the Gerald Ryan-trained Charlie Boy (16) who hasn’t run since their seventh to Long John in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) back on October 12.

Also out wide are the likes of Robert Smerdon’s Salute To Jude (19), Vo Rogue third placed Missy Longstocking (17) and always honest Jet Spur filly Splendora (18).
