Dances On Stars Among 2014 Takeover Target Stakes Nominations

Gerald Ryan’s last start Randwick winner Dances On Stars looks one of the top chances among the Takeover Target Stakes 2014 nominations taken for the Gosford feature on Friday.

One of three black type races on Gosford Cup Day this week, the $100,000 Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) attracted 13 early entries.

Among them are four last start winners including Snitzel four-year-old Dances On Stars.

After a six month break following a disappointing end to their winter campaign last year, the gelding returned to racing on New Year’s Day and enjoyed a nice first-up stakes success in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1100m).

A multiple Group performer, Dances On Stars most recent Group effort was their second to Sizzling in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1400m) in early June last year.

They’ll get back up to that level this coming autumn, but first they’ll tackle another Listed feature on Friday.

The other last start winners in the mix are then the Peter Snowden-trained Emblems vying for their third on the trot after two December sprint wins in Sydney, their stablemate Knoydart who saluted at Canterbury on December 28 in a fine effort and New Year’s Day winner at Randwick Shelford for John O’Shea.

Peter Moody’s Commands five-year-old Club Command was also in the winner’s stall at their last run back in June in Victoria.

Other notable hopes then include Dee’N’Gee coming off a third to Dances On Stars in the Carrington and Carrington runner-up Hidden Warrior both out to turn the tables on their last start conqueror if accepted here.

The full Takeover Target Stakes 2014 nominations are detailed below, final acceptances closing on Wednesday morning to reveal the field.
