No Problem Causes One for Magic Millions Hopes

The 2014 Magic Millions Classic dream was dashed for a number of juveniles in the first at the Gold Coast on the weekend when No Problem beat them home in the final lead-up to the $2 million feature.

A last chance for eligible juveniles to make the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on January 11, the $50,000 Coastal Tipper Hire QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap (1200m) opened proceedings at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

The result however all but ruled out a Magic Millions bid in seven days’ time for a number of hopefuls with the Len Treloar-trained No Problem ($6) taking it out.

The Real Saga colt was a $100,000 buy from the Magic Millions Ready to Run Two-Year-Old Sales back in October.

However the Caloundra-based galloper needed to be sold at a Magic Millions yearling sale to be entitled for a shot at the Magic Millions Classic 2014.

In the Coastal Tipper Michael Cahill guided them home to a three quarter length win over the Rex Lipp-trained Star Drop ($8) with First Rain ($61) a further quarter length away in third.

The two minor placegetters were both seeking a Magic Millions Classic start but now sit well down the order of entry and pay $101 and $201 respectively in the latest markets on the big one this weekend.

Treloar may have been upset about not being Classic eligible with his weekend winner, but instead the horseman said there were other things over more distance in the future for his up-and-comer.

“He is not really a Classic-type horse,” he told AAP of the Evan Hartley-owned youngster.

“There is no doubt that he will be better over 1400 metres to 1600 metres.

“We will keep him going and hopefully find some races at a suitable distance.”

Race favourite in the Coast Tipper was the Gai Waterhouse-trained Spirit Of Joy ($4.80) who could only manage to finish a disappointing eighth beaten three and a half lengths.

They still sit as a $41 chance in Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting however, markets led by the Bjorn Baker-trained BJ McLachlan Stakes winner Unencumbered ($4).

The Magic Millions Classic field is due for release early this week so stay tuned.
