Back in his home town for the popular New Year’s Day meeting, Oliver completed a treble at the meet when guiding Elite Belle to victory in the $100,000 Listed Ascend Sales Trophies La Trice Classic (1800m).

He first saluted in the third aboard Kheleva before celebrating a very rewarding victory in the $500,000 Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) on the Justin Warwick-trained veteran Black Tycoon.

Then came his third win at the meet, Canny Lad five-year-old Elite Belle living up to her $3 price with a three quarter length success over Rose Of Choice ($3.80) – recent winner of the Jungle Dawn Classic at the track.

Rounding out the winning La Trice Classic trifecta in third two lengths off the winner was then Neville Parnham’s last start Starstruck Classic winner Bippo No Bungus ($9).

Oliver was spot on with his ride able to get Elite Belle out of the bunched field, narrowly led by to Rose Of Choice, to challenge and eventually defeat the frontrunner over the final 200 metres.

Wednesday’s winning performance was Elite Belle’s second stakes success following her Listed Carbine Club Of WA Stakes (1400m) back on November 23.

Her last two runs were unplaced efforts against tougher rivals when just two lengths away sixth in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) behind three-year-old Ihtsahymn and ninth to the same horse this time beaten six lengths in the Group 2 CB Cox Stakes (2100m) when failing to handle the distance.

The La Trice Classic win was the second in the past four years for WA’s leading owner-breeders Bob and Sandra Peters, the duo admitting they pushed her too far when trying for the CB Cox.

“We stretched her too far,” Bob Peters told The West Australian.

“She is really a 1400m to 1800m horse. That was why we pulled her out of the Perth Cup and decided to freshen her for this race.”
