Promising young Exceed And Excel filly Earthquake earned her $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) assignment at Caulfield on February 22 after her blistering debut win in Sydney in early November.

A here length winning barrier trial at Rosehill in October saw her start one of the top chances in her first official run over 1000m in an open juvenile’s handicap at Randwick on November 9.

She saluted with ease that day winning by two and a half lengths and is now pre-post favourite in the Blue Diamond Stakes odds paying $4 to win the autumn classic.

There are then three other single figure fancies in the pre-field markets with:

  • Chivalry ($7) – Street Cry colt prepared by Mark Kavanagh, second on debut at Flemington before improving to win by two lengths at Moonee Valley on December 28 in a good run over 1000m
  • Risen From Doubt ($7) – Tony McEvoy-trained Not A Single Doubt colt won back-to-back trials at home in Adelaide before debuting in Melbourne with an impressive two and a half length effort at Flemington in October’s Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m), hasn’t run since
  • Boomwaa ($9) – Maribyrnong Trial Stakes third placegetter on debut, backed up to run fourth in the Inglis Banner at the Valley beaten just one and a half lengths from a wide gate, last run hit the winners’ stall when blowing them away at Flemington with their three length success in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on Emirates Stakes Day

Other notable hopes high up the futures markets then include Top Dolly ($13) who was runner-up in the Group 3 on Melbourne Cup Day behind Magic Millions hope Oakleigh Girl, the Hawkes-trained All American colt Invisible ($14) who won their debut at Canterbury on December 28, the unraced Dezanna ($15) and another Hawkes two-year-old in Maribyrnong Plate runner-up  Lockroy ($16).
