Set to run as Race 7 at 4:05pm (local time) this year’s $100,000 Listed Carlton Draught Goldmarket (1300m) has drawn a final field of 11 hopefuls.

Heading the field and weights on 59kg a piece are the Jason McLachlan-trained seven-year-old Facile Tigre and Kelly Doughty’s Morning Captain drawn well in gates four and one respectively.

While both are class gallopers their recent form needs improving on.

Facile Tigre is coming off a disappointing 13th in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) in Brisbane while Morning Captain last seen running fifth in the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m).

Local Danbird gelding Morning Captain however was defeated under four lengths that day in their first run over the distance in nearly eight weeks.

Before that the five-year-old was in top form winning over 1300m at Eagle Farm finishing a close third behind Better Than Ready in the Listed Keith Noud Handicap (1200m) and then running just a long neck away second in the George Moore behind Lucky Hussler.

Doughty has also accepted for the in-form Little Brown Horse.

A daughter of Waterford Road the five-year-old mare won back-to-back races firstly at the Gold Coast in the wet in November and then on a Good (3) at Doomben on December 18 when resuming this time in.

Her latest start was also a cracker when stepping up to 1350m on December 28 at Doobmen when a close second behind Miss Leibert in a Benchmark 85.

Saturday will be just her second black type start, Doughty hoping they can continue their good form despite the class rise.

There are then two last start winners in the Goldmarket Handicap mix this year including a Sydney raider in the Gai Waterhouse-trained King Cobia coming off a narrow win over 1400m at Kensington from mid-December.

Drawn nicely in gate two and getting in on the 54kg minimum, King Cobia is racing over a distance under 1400m for the first time since their first-up win over 1200m at Kembla Grange back on September 14 and it’s also their first interstate assignment.

The other horse after back-to-back wins in the Gold Coast feature on Saturday is then Maryann Brosnan’s striking Lonhro grey Spatha drawn wide in gate 10 who won over the distance at Doomben three weeks back.

Others coming off nice last start runs are then track specialist Trombone Alley who won three on the trot before their last start second over 1400m here carrying 58kg, they drop to 54kg here, and the Sue Grills-trained Ollie Vollie.

Belong To Me gelding Olllie Vollie is a rising 12-year-old but continues to race competitively despite their age including their two most recent runs that produced a fourth in the Keith Noud and a fourth again in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1150m).
