Solicit Already Eyeing Caulfield Cup 2014

Crown Oaks third placegetter from the spring Solicit is already being targeted for a 2014 Caulfield Cup campaign next season.

Currently back in pre-training following a spell after a testing preparation this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, the Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Street Cry filly will again be aimed at a staying major next spring.

The three-year-old who had her first run for Greg Eurell before a stable transfer stepped up to Group company for the first time at Flemington at just her fourth career start.

After winning back-to-back at Ballarat and then Moonee Valley for her new trainers in September, Ellerton and Zahra ran her in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1610m) where she ran a good third to Se Sauver.

She continued to finish in the money at her next three starts which culminated with a third, beaten just a quarter length, to Kirramosa in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) during Melbourne Cup week.

While she’s yet to win a black type, or race against the boys outside of her debut seventh back in March, her trainers believe she’s more than capable of developing into a genuine chance for the $2.5 million Group 1 BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) in October next year.

“She looked to us and though she was always going to be an autumn three-year-old,” Zahra told Racing Victoria having welcomed the filly back at the start of last week.

“It was a huge run (in the Crown Oaks) and a lot was made of the blinkers being put on but they did run six seconds outside of the course record so they weren’t going as quick as what people thought either.

“She was on a learning curve and it all probably popped up a bit quick for her that preparation.

“She should furnish into a nice stayer and hopefully, touch wood she can be a nice Caulfield Cup horse in the spring.”

Before that however she’ll chase an Oaks atonement looking to go better than her third in the spring when she races in the $550,000 Group 1 ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 19.
