Sweet Idea Leads 2013 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes Field

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Sweet Idea gets another chance to confirm her favouritism for the $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) in Queensland next month when she runs in the 2013 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes in Sydney this Thursday.

The three-year-old daughter of Snitzel has opened top of the futures odds for the 2014 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas at the online bookies paying $4.80.

It’s a price that could firm following Thursday’s Magic Millions Race Day at Wyong Racecourse when she runs in the $100,000 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes (1200m).

Drawn on the rails in the nine-horse field with James McDonald riding, Sweet Idea is first-up here on the back of a winning 1050m trial at Randwick earlier in the month.

Her last official start was at Warwick Farm on August 24 when she was defeated a mere nose by Thump in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m).

She bled during the race however and incurred an automatic three month ban.

A star two-year-old, Sweet Idea ran top two in her opening five career starts including a second to Real Surreal when defeated only a long neck in the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) this past summer.

She was also a brave third to stablemate Overreach in the iconic $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill in April on the back of a Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes win.

On Thursday Sweet Idea will look to return to that same form ahead of her second Magic Millions Gold Coast Race Day appearance on January 11.

The next shortest priced three-year-old in the early Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas odds that runs in the Wyong MM Stakes this week is then $11 shot Weinholt.

Peter Moody’s Stratum colt hasn’t raced since their failed 12th when defeated over 16 lengths by the Peter Snowden-trained Long John in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

Against easier class here over a shorter distance however they should be more competitive, Weinholt after their first win since a 1200m effort at Caulfield back in March.

Another notable Magic Millions Guineas-bound runner, paying $26 for the Gold Coast race, is Wouldnt It Be Nice in gate five on Thursday.

The Choisir colt from Paul Perry’s Broadmeadow stables won first-up at Rosehill back in November but was disappointing when having no luck at their next start to run eighth.

They won a Newcastle trial earlier in the month however and with a nice record when fresh are deserving of their shot again.

Also in the mix are then the likes of the lightly raced Oratorio gelding Tresorio having just the third start, Fiftyshadesofgrey coming off a good third in the Ballarat Magic Millions 3YO Classic in the wet and the flying Stephen Farley-trained Patinage.

In gate two, Murtajill filly Patinage is undefeated this time in with three wins from as many starts her most recent being over 1100m at Hawkesbury on November 30.
