Crumpet O’Reilly Included In 2013 W.A. St Leger Final Field

The in-form Crumpet O’Reilly will have the opportunity to record his maiden win at Listed level after being included in the 2013 Western Australian St. Leger final field.

Crumpet O’Reilly failed to fire in three starts as a three-year-old but has been a revelation since returning to the races in October; recording four wins from five starts.

The Adam Durrant-trained gelding started his campaign with a second place finish in the Radio West Free Family Maiden (1300m) at Northam before recording his maiden win at the same venue in the Slater Gartrell Handicap (1300m) a week later.

The son of O’Reilly recorded his maiden metropolitan victory in the Yellowglen Bella Handicap (1600m) at Ascot on November 5 and scored another comfortable victory in the Imagesource Digital Print (1600m) before recording a narrow win in the Group 1 Racing At Ascot Handicap (1500m) just under three weeks ago.

Another galloper taking winning form into the Western Australian St Leger is Fancy Feet who has recorded two wins from two starts since starting her summer preparation.

Fancy Feet scored an upset win in the Skyy Vodka Handicap (1500m) at Ascot on November 30 and returned to the winner’s stall a week later with another strong win in the Perth Racing Handicap (1600m) on December 11.

The Fath mare will be having her third start at Listed level after finishing twelfth behind Moreish in the Listed 1000 Guineas (1800m) and third in the Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m) earlier this year.

The only other last-start winner in the 2013 Western Australian St. Leger final field is Peggy Brown-trained My Diamond Peg who managed to record a victory at Bunbury on December 4 despite rider Natasha Faithfull losing her irons.

Rounding out the 2013 Western Australian St. Leger field are: Fred Kersley-trained Northpace, the consistent Civil Rights, talented mare Moriesh, Michael Grant-trained Looking Ahead, three-year-old Vital Edition and Stephen Rowe-trained Put Up Your Dukes.
