Cahill Gives 2014 Magic Millions Classic Gal His Tick

Jockey Michael Cahill is the latest in the industry to throw his support behind the Danny Bougoure-trained Magic Millions 2YO Classic 2014 favourite Oakleigh Girl ahead of her next start in Saturday’s $100,000 Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1010m).

The daughter of Snitzel shot to the top of the early markets for next month’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast after an impressive debut win at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

She did everything right that day with Craig Newitt aboard when defeating Top Dolly in the Group 3 7News Stakes (1000m).

Fourth placegetter in that race Golconda proved the form out of the race worth following with a Listed Caulfield win next start in fine fashion.

After a five week freshen-up the exciting filly races again, this time going to Brisbane for the Calaway Gal Stakes at Doomben Racecourse.

There she will be ridden by Cahill for the first time, the highly fancied duo drawn ideally in barrier three in the 14-starter field.

Oakleigh Girl is set to jump favourite in the two-year-old fillies feature that features the likes of the Kelly Schwedia-trained last start winner at the track Totally Sure (barrier four) and Vo Treasure after their third on the trot following back-to-back Townsville wins last month.

Success will also see her firm further in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic odds at the online bookies, markets she already dominates paying around $5 in.

After a Tuesday hitout aboard the Magic Millions top fancy Cahill is confident he’s on the right filly on the weekend, and that her trainer’s decision to run her under race conditions and not have another trial next week is the right one.

“She’s a professional type and a nice, calm filly which is a good sign for an early two-year-old,” Cahill told AAP.

“When I galloped her on Tuesday she just did pacework with an older companion and dashed up two furlongs.

“I gave her a squeeze inside the furlong and she did everything I expected her to. I think she’s the real deal.”

Cahill is likely to be called up for Oakleigh Girl’s next race too, the $150,000 Group 3 BJ McLachlan Plate (1200m) back at Doomben on December 28 ahead of the Magic Millions.
