Next Thursday’s $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (1100m) in New South Wales will be used by Bjorn Baker’s smart young Unencumbered as a stepping stone to the Gold Coast’s 2014 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Next month’s $2 million feature, run on January 11, is the main summer aim for Baker’s promising Testa Rossa colt Unencumbered.
The two-year-old has won two of their three career starts to date and will be looking to make it a trifecta when they race at Wyong next Thursday, December 17.
There they will face off against a quality field of Magic Millions juveniles in the restricted classic used as a lead-up to Queensland’s big multi million equivalent a month later.
Unencumbered was purchased for $70,000 by connections from the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sales back in January.
They’ve already amassed $145,850 in prize money which they will be out to add to in the 2013 Wyong Magic Millions Classic.
After a debut win at Randwick over 1000m on October 12 they backed up at Rosehill two weeks later and finished three quarters of a length away third when stepped up to 1100m.
Dropped back to the 1000m for their latest run last Saturday they raced well fresh at the Kensington track to win a 2YO Plate by over a length with Nathan Berry back after a one start absence.
Baker is pleased with how they’ve come through their latest win and said everything was on track for Thursday and then their Gold Coast bid.
“He’s come off that win at Randwick last Saturday in great order and we’re in for an exciting summer with the juveniles,” he told racenet.com.au.
“It’s exciting times.”
