Weinholt was highly rated heading into the 2013 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, after recording two wins from four starts as a four-year-old, and performed fairly without breaking through for a victory in his five starts.

The Stratum colt started his campaign with a third place finish behind Clevadude and Cauthen in the Sweeney Can Do Agents Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley on August 3 before finishing fourth behind Cauthen, Cox Plate winner Shamus Award and Caulfield Guineas winner Long John in the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m).

Weinholt produced the best performance of his preparation when he finished second behind Long John in the Listed Henry Bucks Best Dressed Stakes (1400m) and was far from disgraced when fifth in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m).

The three-year-old was considered an outsider heading into the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and failed to play a part in the finishing; beating home two just runners in the $1 million event.

Weinholt spent about six weeks in the spelling paddock before winning a barrier trial over 727 metres at Randwick on December 2 by four lengths and looks well-placed to record his maiden black-type victory in the Gold Edition Plate on Saturday.

Another horse set to make their racing debut in Brisbane is John Sargent-trained Good Job Bro who has raced well without winning this preparation.

Good Job Bro made a slow start to his spring campaign, finishing fifth in the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) and eighth in the Rosehill Gardens Handicap (1400m) on August 31, before finishing a competitive third in the Tab.Com.Au Handicap (1100m) at Canterbury on September 25.

The Choisir gelding has run into some quality horse in the past two months and has been unlucky not record the second race win of his career; finishing second behind Terravista in the Thinc Handicap (1000m), third behind Turbulent Jet in the McGrath Estate Agents Handicap (1200m) and second behind Suit in the Peachtree Hotel Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on November 16.

The most exciting locally-trained runner in the Gold Edition Plate nominations is Rudy who has recorded three wins from just five starts during his racing career.

Rudy finishing his winter campaign with back-to-back victories in the Priestley’s Delights Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast and the Hidden Dragon at Lyndhurst Handicap (1600m) at Eagle Farm on July 20 and after a poor first-up run this campaign returned to his best form with a win over Into The Red and Missing Page in the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Handicap (1110m) at Doomben on November 30.

Choose A Saga, Dalton, Into The Red and Tinto are also set to back up from the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Handicap this weekend.
