Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The George Moore Stakes(1200m) has been won by a number of talented horses in the past decade and a strong field will contest the Group 3 event at Doomben on Saturday.
The likes of Takeover Target (2005), Natural Destiny (2006), Adebisi (2011) and Startsmeup (2012) have all won the George Moore Stakes and Kelly Schweida-trained Cape Kidnappers has been well backed to join this honor roll and record his maiden win at Group level.
Cape Kidnappers ($3) has recorded seven wins from just ten career starts and has been in good form this preparation; winning the T & J Whitehouse Plate (1010m) at Doomben before finishing second behind Heart Testa in the Diamond Beach Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on November 16.
Schweida revealed earlier in the week that the Commands gelding did not handle his first trip away from his stable but is confident he can bounce back this weekend.
The only other runner in the George Moore Stakes betting market that is available at single figure odds is Kelso Wood-trained Benny’s Buttons who gave classy sprinter Better Than Ready a scare in the Listed Keith Noud Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago.
Benny’s Buttons has been ultra-consistent in recent times, finishing in the placings in his past five starts, and is available at odds of $8 to record his first win at Group level since he won the 2010 Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m).
Other runners in the George Moore Stakes field that have received a sprinkling of support are Famous Seamus ($10), Morning Captain ($10), Doubtfilly ($10) and Someday ($13) but all the money has been for Cape Kidnappers and he is the clear market mover.
2013 George Moore Stakes Tips
#14 Cape Kidnappers ($3)
Cape Kidnappers is now at a very short quote but he gets into this race very well in the weights and is clearly the horse to beat. The form coming out of the Diamond Beach Handicap is very strong, with Heart Testa and Zaratone quinellaing the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens last weekend, and the six-year-old is just a very consistent performer.
#15 Doubtfilly ($10)
The 2012 Golden Slipper fourth placegetter returned to a semblance of her best form with a narrow third place finish behind Lady Echelon in the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) and she is another that gets into this race very well in the weights. If she performs at her best she will give this a real shake.
#5 Benny’s Buttons ($8)
Benny’s Buttons laid down the challenge to Better Than Ready in the Keith Noud Handicap and if he can replicate that performance will be tough to beat this Saturday. The Refuse To Bend gelding does not win out of turn but is a consistent performer who must be included on all George Moore Stakes exotic bets.
