2013 Hong Kong International Jockeys’ Championship Rides Allocated

The rides for the 2013 Hong Kong International Jockeys’ Championship that will be held at Happy Valley on Wednesday night have been allocated; with Australian representative Kerrin McEvoy receiving a mixed bag of horses for the exciting event.

The Hong Kong International Jockeys’ Championship draws some the best riders from all over the world who will take part in a four race series that offers $800,000 in prizemoney and awards the winner any incredible payday of $500,000.

Christophe Soumillion, Maxime Guyon, Mike Smith, Mirco Demuro, Suguru Hamanaka, Gary Stevens, Zac Purton, Richard Hughes, Ryan Moore, Douglas Whyte and Keith Yeung will join McEvoy in the event and the leading Australian jockey will need to be at his very best to take out the title.

McEvoy will partner Home With Glory, Expectator, Precision Time, and Enabling in the four races during the Hong Kong International Jockeys’ Championship, none of who are taking particularly good form into their respective races.

Home With Glory is chasing his first race win in almost a year, after taking out the Ngong Pine Handicap (1650m) last December, while Expectator, who is yet to breaking his maiden, and New Zealand import Precision King are both chasing their first wins in Hong Kong.

McEvoy will not be the only Australian-born representative in the Hong Kong International Jockeys’ Championship; with Zac Purton, who is now based in Hong Kong, earning an invitation because of his lead in the Hong Kong Jockeys’ Premiership.

Purton finished second behind Joao Moreira in the 2012 Hong Kong International Jockeys’ Championship but told the HKJC that he is not particularly confident about his chance in this year’s edition of the event.

“It looks like I have a mixed bag but you never know,” Purton said.

“I probably had a better book of rides last year and couldn’t get it done but what’s on paper is not always everything in racing.

“It’s great to be part of it and ride against some legends of the game.

“The competition is tough and if I can win one race I will be happy.”
