Chris Waller’s in-form four-year-old Heart Testa has opened top of the markets to break their black type maiden in Saturday’s 2013 Starlight Stakes at Rosehill Racecourse.
The gelding has won two of their four runs this time in, finishing in the money in all but two of their 12 career starts to date.
It’s a consistent record they will look to continue this weekend in the $100,000 Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) which drew a final field of 10 hopefuls.
Heart Testa came up trumps with barrier one in the field and is set to be ridden by regular hoop Jason Collett.
Collett was aboard last start when Heart Testa held on for a narrow win in a benchmark 95 over the same track and distance as the Starlight when carrying 57kg.
They drop down to 56.5kg here and are the current $3 favourite to celebrate their first Listed race success.
There are then three other single figure chances in the Starlight Stakes odds with:
- #7 Safeguard ($4.40) – Peter Snowden-trained autumn hope who was runner-up in the Blue Sapphire two back before a sixth at Flemington over just 1000m on Crown Oaks Day, back up in distance will suit as they won the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes and Group 3 Vain Stakes at Randwick and Caulfield respectively over the 1100m earlier in the year
- #1 Hidden Warrior ($5) – Paul Perry’s smart four-year-old won over the 100m here on November 2 at their last start when ridden by Nathan Berry from gate six, same jockey and barrier combination here so in with a strong chance and should be fresh after the little let up between runs
- #3 Zaratone ($6.50) – Bjorn Baker-trained Zariz eight-year-old stilly racing in top form despite their age, latest run was a third behind Testa Rosaa when carrying a hefty 60.5kg, drop back to 58kg here so in with a chance to turn the tables
Just outside the top fancies are then Canterbury Classic runner-up Uate ($12) and Fireball ($15) both first-up here.
