2013 Recognition Stakes Field & Barriers – Fillydelphia Draws Rails

After celebrating the third straight Group 1 win by stable favourite Buffering in Perth’s Winterbottom Stakes last weekend, leading Brisbane trainer Rob Heathcote will now saddle up a top chance in Saturday’s Recognition Stakes 2013 with the rails-drawn Fillydelphia.

The six-year-old Bianconi mare, to be ridden by Michael Cahill, has barrier one for her shot at the $80,000 Listed Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes (1600m) at Doomben which drew a full field of 16 starters plus an emergency for Saturday.

A 35-start veteran of the track, Fillydelphia enjoyed her 10th career win at Eagle Farm last start on November 16 taking out an open 1400m handicap by an impressive three and a half lengths.

She had the same barrier (one) that day and now has the chance to repeat the feat this time at black type level.

While she didn’t contest last year’s Recognition Stakes, Fillydelphia did run a brave third to Wonderful Lass in the 2011 edition which she’ll be looking to improve on this time round.

One thing working against her however is a rise from 55kg last start to 58kg on Saturday as the second heaviest weighted runner in the race.

Heading the Recognition Stakes weights with 59kg is then the Tony Gollan-trained Listen Son who also has the second widest gate (16 into 15 with emergency out) to overcome.

Winner at the track and distance two back in October, the Big Jesse seven-year-old was last seen carrying 57kg to a brave second to Mornign Captain in the Padua College Handicap (1300m) at Eagle Farm on November 2.

Gollan has also accepted for Bang On (barrier 10) who has lots of work to do if they are to improve on their two recent eight place finishes, the dour stayer sure to appreciate getting up in distance.

A few trainers have multiple chances in the race including Brian Smith who has accepted for a trio of stablemates.

Smith’s hopes are seven-year-old mare Dolly Dolly (barrier three) dropping back from 2000m at Flemington on Emirates Stakes Day (when 13th) to the mile here, 1800m Eagle Farm winner on November 16 Billy Aucash (barrier nine) coming off a last start win and the resuming Ipswich Cup minor placegetter Za Magic in gate two.

Other notable chances include the Kelly Doughty-trained Black Cash who won a grey’s race at Flemington on Crown Oaks Day carrying 60kg, Falino and the always honest Essington who has run fourth in their past five starts including behind Fillydelphia at their most recent.
