Orr – Futurity Stakes 2014 Double for Moody & Moment

After a brave spring campaign consisting of four top four Group 1 finishes, the Peter Moody-trained Moment Of Change will be put away until the autumn where they will return for a shot at the 2014 CF Orr StakesFuturity Stakes double.

Winner of last year’s Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) the Barley A Moment gelding, now five-years-old, has been the picture of consistency this preparation.

After two good fourths behind Samaready and Buffering in the Moir Stakes and Manikato Stakes respectively second and third-up at Moonee Valley, they travelled to Flemington this month.

There they looked to turn the tables on their last start conqueror taking on the Rob Heathcote-trained Manikato chap Buffering in the Group 1 VRC Sprint Classic (1200m).

However they couldn’t beat them in round two running third, and would play the bridesmaid again to the Mossman six-year-old last weekend.

The duo travelled west to Perth for the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) running a devastatingly close one (Buffering) two (Moment Of Change) with a nostril flare separating them in the Ascot classic.

Confident his galloper is capable of adding another elite level to their record, Moody is now eyeing the richest of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival for Moment Of Change.

Likely to resume in the $220,000 Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 24, Moment Of Change will then go into the $400,000 Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 8.

All going well they’ll race then a fortnight later back at the track on Blue Diamond Stakes Day in the $500,000 Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) on February 22.

“He’ll probably resume in the Australia Stakes as a lead up run to the Orr Stakes and Futurity Stakes,” Moody confirmed when speaking to Racing Victoria.

Moment Of Change could also be joined in the CF Orr Stakes field by imported stablemate Kesampour, the King’s Best stallion last seen running third to Sertorius in the Listed Bendigo Cup (2400m) in October.
