2013 Carbine Club of WA Stakes Field & Odds – Elite Belle Favourite

The filly that ran second to Kerrific in last Saturday’s Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes (1500m) is topping the markets for her second assignment in as many weeks in the Carbine Club of WA Stakes 2013 this weekend.

The Grant Williams-trained Elite Belle has been in flying form this time in running top three in all three of her starts.

After a first-up win at Ascot over 1400m on October 19 she went on to run a close second at the same track, distance and conditions in a second Benchmark 72 before her effort last weekend.

She’s the final of four emergencies for the prestigious $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) this Saturday, but is unlikely to be called upon.

Instead she’ll jump favourite in Ascot Race 2 at 12:40pm (local) – the $100,000 Listed Carbine Club of W.A. Stakes (1400m).

Eleven gallopers are engaged in the handicap clash this year, Elite Belle in barrier six with William Pike riding sitting top of the current markets at a quote of $3.10.

Three of her rivals are also under $10 in the Carbine Club of WA Stakes odds, the second fancy being Darlington Abbey at $4.20.

Simon Miller’s four-year-old Stratum mare is down in class here after running a brave fifth, beaten under one and a half lengths by Conservatorium, in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) on November 9.

The other single figure fancies are then veteran eight-year-old Vermeer ($7.50) coming off a close second to Platinum Rocker in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) at the start of the month, after which they pulled up slightly lame, and Luke’s Luck ($8).

Drawn wide in gate 10 Dan Morton’s Show A Heart four-year-old Luke’s Luck, a dual Group winner in the autumn of last year, was a second-up sixth in the Asian Beau last time out.

Also not without their claims are longer priced hopefuls Pin Rouge carrying the 59kg top-weight for their first-up run since April, the Neville Parnahm-trained Bippo No Bungus and last start Belmont winner over the mile Keepers Court all paying $10 to score an upset.
