There are two Group races running at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse this Saturday, Miss Rose De Lago jumping favourite in the first – the 2013 WA Champion Fillies Stakes.
Set to run as Ascot Race 6 at 4:25pm (local) this year’s $200,000 Group 3 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) originally drew a final field of 12 hopefuls.
The early scratching of #11 Princess Courjaz however has left 11 remaining hopefuls, the clear favourite of which is Simon Miller’s last start stakes winning daughter of Encosta De Lago Miss Rose De Lago.
Miss Rose De Lago has had just four starts to date for two wins, most recently the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) at the track on November 2.
There she defeated a similar class of fellow three-year-old fillies after overcoming the far outside barrier 12, and she should appreciate gate two here as she goes up to the mile for the first time.
The bookies believe she’ll handle the class and distance rise too with Miss Rose De Lago the firm $2.40 favourite and market mover.
There are then three other single figure chances in the markets with:
Others further down the markets but still in with genuine claims then include the rails drawn Western Gem ($10) and Decreed ($12) who lines up for just her second career start here.
