Chris Waller’s dual stakes winning mare She’s Clean has opened favourite to break her Group maiden in the Summoned Stakes 2013 at Caulfield Racecourse this weekend.
In the mares-only feature of Zipping Classic Day it is Redoute’s Choice five-year-old She’s Clean who is tipped to take out the $135,000 Group 3 Le Pine Funerals Summoned Stakes (1600m) on Saturday.
Drawn in gate two with Craig Newitt to ride she pays $3.50 in the latest Summoned Stakes odds and is the early market mover thanks to her ideal barrier.
She’s Clean’s lead-up run was also a beauty when she overcome barrier 15 (of 16) to run a brave third behind Plucky Belle and Arinosa in the Group 3 Lavazza Short Black (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.
She steps up to the mile for the first time here and jockey Newitt is confident that from the draw she will get every chance to handle the distance.
“If the track is playing to run-on horses, she’s the best horse in the race and should be winning,” Newitt told AAP this week.
It’s a relatively tight Summoned Stakes betting market this year however with three other single figure fancies in:
- #10 Floria ($4.20) – Peter Moody-trained Savabeel mare was third in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) to Red Tracer during the Brisbane winter carnival, this time in has had two runs the most recent when stepped up to the mile to run sixth (behind Red Tracer again) in the Group 1 Myer Classic on Derby Day at Flemington, step down in class over the same distance will suit here
- #8 Wistful ($6.50) – Extreme outside barrier (14) draw for Peter Snowden’s Tiger Hill four-year-old to overcome, she raced on Cup Day and won a mares handicap carrying 54kg over 1700m, back to the mile should be sharp but needs to handle the set weights here with 57kg
- #5 Members Joy ($9.50) – Hussonet four-year-old prepared locally by Robert Smerdon, was second in the grey’s race on Crown Oaks Day over 1400m and goes up in distance here, had a wide gate (14 of 15) last start so barrier six will suit better here
Following in the Summoned Stakes odds are then Bonaria ($10) out to improve on their Myer Classic 10th, Snowden’s recent Northwood Plume Stakes winner here Aerobatics ($11), hit-and-miss seven-year-old Hi Belle ($14) and the in-form Mick Price-trained Blanket Bay ($16) all with claims.
