Punters are getting behind Darren Weir’s talented mare Platelet to post her second win of the season when she takes on a crack field in Saturday’s 2013 Kevin Heffernan Stakes on Zipping Classic Day.
The Strategic five-year-old is one of 13 chances in this year’s $135,000 Group 2 TMB Printing Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1200m) which is shaping up as one of the majors at Caulfield this weekend.
Drawn in gate seven with Michelle Payne to ride the dual Group 1 champion pays $4.40 as the early favourite in the current Kevin Heffernan Stakes odds after her brave last start fifth, beaten just over a length, behind Spirit Of Boom in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m) at the track on October 19.
The run before she had it over Spirit Of Boom when winning the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) second-up at Flemington.
That was her first win since completing the coveted Group 1 Adelaide sprit double with wins in both the Robert Sangster Stakes and The Goodwood over the 1200m at Morphettville during April – May.
Now she’s after more success to continue her nice affinity with the Caulfield track.
There are three other runners hot on her heels in Kevin Heffernan Stakes betting too with:
- #12 Lonhspresso ($5) – Money coming for Darren Weir’s ideally drawn Lonhro mare in barrier three who is the market mover at this stage, stakes winner in Adelaide last season, has put in two decent runs this time in most recently in a Derby Day black type at Flemington when fifth (from barrier 14 of 15) to Fontelina
- #3 Famous Seamus ($6) – Another runner with an ace draw (two), this Elusive City gelding from Hawkesbury comes off a win at Randwick over 1100m from October 19 and runs in Melbourne for the first time in 12 months, their only run in Victoria having been a failed effort on Cup Day 2012
- #1 Pinwheel ($7) – Peter Snowden’s experienced eight-year-old sprinter has work to do from out in barrier 12, last start was a fifth to Boban (subsequent winner of last weekend’s Emirates Stakes) in the Moonga Stakes over 1400m here on Caulfield Cup Day, should be fresh and the drip back in distance will suit
Also in the mix at double figures are then the likes of the always consistent Pago Rock (410), Crown Oaks Day winner Lankan Rupee ($11), Choisir six-year-old Le Bonsir ($12) down in class after a disappointing 10th to Buffering in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes last start and local Bradbury’s Luck mare She Can Skate ($13).
