2013 WA Champion Fillies Stakes Field Released

A smart collection of Perth’s best fillies will line-up at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday in the WA Champion Fillies Stakes 2013, one of two Group races at the early Perth Summer Racing Carnival meeting.

Set to run as Ascot Race 6 at 4:25pm (local time) this year’s $200,000 Group 3 Skyy Vodka W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) has drawn a final field of 12 hopefuls.

Among them are two last start winners including Simon Miller’s Miss Rose De Lago.

Drawn in gate two with Peter Knuckey to ride the daughter of Encosta De Lago enjoyed a win in the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes on November 2 at the track over 1400m, Saturday her first look at the mile.

Runner-up in the Burgess, Via Laurentina also backs up here looking to turn the tables on their last start conqueror.

Via Laurentina is one of two chances for top Perth trainer Neville Parnham in the race along with Vital Importance who will wear the number one saddlecloth.

A winner of three of their 10 starts to date, Vital Importance has been out of form this prep having run dead last to Arcadia Rose two back before their eighth in the Burgess Queen.

The other last start winner vying for another win on the trot is then Grant Williams’ undefeated Western Gem.

Drawn on the rails with William Pike in the saddle, Charge Forward filly Western Gem has won her only two starts to date but is yet to race at Ascot with a big class rise for her here.

Williams will also saddle up his recent Listed Belgravia Stakes winner over the 1200m here Arcadia Rose who was last seen running fourth in the Burgess Queen.

Other notable fillies in the mix then include Burgess Queen third placegetter Cool Trade who should enjoy the extra distance this weekend and Fred Kersley’s lightly-raced daughter of Fath Decreed who will be having just their second start here following a good third on debut at Ascot over 1400m on October 30.

The day’s other major race to enjoy a punt on online at Ladbrokes.com.au along with the WA Champion Fillies Stakes, odds for which are due out shortly, is the $125,000 Group 3 R.J. Peters Stakes (1500m).

A traditional lead-up race to some of the Perth Festival’s bigger events, this year’s RJ Peters Stakes field features 13 hopefuls with Kersley’s veteran eight-year-old Grand Nirvana the 61kg topweight.

See below for the full WA Champion Fillies Stakes 2013 field, barriers, jockeys and weights.

You don’t have to be in WA to enjoy a winning pay day on the punt there this weekend.
