Shinn Chasing Another Group 1 In 2013 Emirates Stakes

Blake Shinn has had his best 2013 Spring Racing Carnival since returning from suspension and is hoping to finish with a bang when he rides Toydini in the 2013 Emirates Stakes at Flemington this afternoon.

Toydini and Blake Shinn will combine again, after winning the Crystal Mile, in the 2013 Emirates Stakes at Flemington this afternoon.

Shinn partnered Streama to victory in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick and rode Toydini when he won the Group 3 Cameron Handicap (1500m) and Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m) in impressive fashion.

The controversial jockey did enough to impress Gai Waterhouse who gave Shinn the prized mount of Fiorente in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), who finished third behind before going on to win the 2013 Melbourne Cup, and he also rode Zanbagh when she finished a narrow second behind Kirramosa in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on Thursday.

Shinn told Fairfax that he has been with his form during the carnival but admitted that he was slightly disappointed he was unable to pick up a Group 1 victory on either Fiorente or Zanbagh.

”It has been a good carnival when you look at the limited chances I have had,” Shinn said.

”Who knows, with a bit of luck they both could have won.”

Shinn rode Toydini when he finished a narrow third behind Boban in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and, based on his run in the Crystal Mile, he believes that the four-year-old can turn the tables on Boban in the 2013 Emirates Stakes this afternoon.

I have been looking forward to riding Toydini since I won on him at Moonee Valley,” Shinn said.

“Toydini comes out of a strong Epsom where ‘the form has been franked all around him.

”I know Boban is the favourite but I meet him much better at the weights for being beaten less than a length in the Epsom and I think my bloke is going better now.

”The Epsom is one of the strongest form races I have seen because Boban, my bloke and Spurtonic have all won in Melbourne since.”

Toydini is currently on the third line of 2013 Emirates Stakes betting markets at odds of $7; with Boban ($3.50) the clear favourite from stablemate Sacred Falls ($6) who has been well-backed with the prospect of rain in Melbourne.
