Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The Emirates Stakes is generally a very open betting affair but in 2013 there has been plenty of support for Chris Waller-trained Boban who is chasing his fifth straight victory in what has been an incredible 2013 Spring Racing Carnivalcampaign.
Boban opened at odds of $4.60 in 2013 Emirates Stakes betting markets but has been extremely well supported and is now into a quote of $3.60; with the money expected to keep on coming for the four-year-old.
The Bernardini gelding started his spring preparation in restricted company but has shown rapid improvement to win the Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m), Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) in impressive fashion.
Boban is joined in the 2013 Emirates Stakes field by stablemate Sacred Falls who is on the second line of betting at odds of $6 after returning to his best form with an unlucky third place finish behind Toydini and Speediness in the Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day.
There has also been a sprinkling of support for Guy Walter-trained Toydini ($6.50), Coongy Stakes winner Spurtonic and the consistent Speediness, while the Group 1 winning duo of Linton ($26) and Solzhenitsyn ($17) have been on the drift.
Is Boban good enough to record his second Group 1 victory or can one of the other runners in the 2013 Emirates Stake field can the winning streak of the classy gelding?
2013 Emirates Stakes Tips
#9 Speediness ($9.50)
Speediness started his 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with an impressive victory in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) and has been unlucky not to record another win in his subsequent starts in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) and Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m).
The Testa Rossa gelding was beaten by a nose by Toydini in the Crystal Mile but meets the majority of that field much better in the weights on Saturday.
He has had past success at Flemington and has an extremely consistent record over a mile; with his current 2013 Emirates Stakes odds of $9.50 extremely generous.
#3 Sacred Falls ($6)
Sacred Falls took a while to return to his best form this preparation but was desperately unlucky not to record his first race win, since his Doncaster Handicap triumph over Pierro, in the Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley a fortnight.
Leigh Innes gave the four-year-old a shocking ride and the son of O’Reilly will receive a great deal of benefit from leading jockey Glen Boss, when he jumps from barrier six on Saturday.
#4 Toydini ($6.50)
Toydini was only narrowly beaten by Boban in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap but meets him substantially better in the weights at Flemington tomorrow.
The four-year-old is yet to produce a poor run this preparation and he showed a great deal of bravery to hold on for a strong victory in the Crystal Mile ,with 58 and a half kilos on his back, after racing wide for the majority of the event.
