Crown Oaks Betting Support For Kirramosa

The 2013 Crown Oaks betting support for Kirramosa has continued to flow; with the Wakeful Stakes winner the clear market mover in betting markets for the $1 million Group 1 event at Flemington this afternoon.

There has been a constant wave of support for Kirramosa since the Crown Oaks final field was released and she is now into odds of $2.60 to give trainer John Sargent his first ever Group 1 victory in Melbourne after winning the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) with Quintessential last year.

While Kirramosa has received plenty of betting support from right around Australia, jockey Hugh Bowman believes that the Alamosa filly is no certainty and rates his mount Arabian Gold a leading  contender in the Group 1 race.

Arabian Gold has form lines around Guelph, finishing second in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and second in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m), and Bowman is confident that this gives the Dubawi filly an advantage over the rest of the field; dismissing claims that the three-year-old will not be able to run a strong 2500 metres.

“She is proven at Group 1 level,” Bowman told News Limited.

“She has raced at a higher level than most of the field.

“You can win an Oaks without being bred to stay.

“Often it is the class filly who can win, and I’m counting on that.

“I think she is the class filly of the race and the only real question is the 2500m, but that is the case with all these fillies.”

Bowman said that he is not dismissing Kirramosa and compared the filly to Victoria Derby winner Polanski but believes that the expected slow tempo of the 2013 Crown Oaks may not suit the classy filly who came from the back of the field to win the Wakeful Stakes.

“She is a bit like Polanski in the Derby; she is hitting the right form at the right time,” Bowman said.

“But the Wakeful was run at a very fast pace and it was set up for a swooper and that may not be the case in the Oaks. “

Arabian Gold is on the fifth line of 2013 Crown Oaks betting markets at odds of $12, behind Kirramosa ($2.60), Zanbagh ($5), May’s Dream ($6) and Solicit ($10).
