Dunaden will look to defy his top weight of 58.5 kilograms when he runs in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse tomorrow November 5, 2013.
The eight-year-old won the Melbourne Cup in 2011 and will be out to post his second victory in the event in three years.
Dunaden has won 10 of his 41 race starts and has earned more than $7.66 million in prize money during his horse racing career.
The Nicobar entire placed eighth in the Group 2 Qatar Prix Foy last start and will be out to turn his form around in the Melbourne Cup.
Prior to last start, his race performances have been very strong this year; producing a fourth, third and two seconds last preparation.
Dunaden’s owner, Sheik Fahad Al-Thani understands that winning the Melbourne Cup with the top weight is a tall ask.
“He’s an eight year-old, so carrying 58.5kg as an eight year old and asking him to improve is a hard thing,” he said.
“But he loves Flemington as well. We know he runs well fresh like last year.
“His preparation has been fantastic.”
Even Red Cadeaux’s trainer, Ed Dunlop, believes Dunaden is the one to watch in the 2013 Melbourne Cup.
“…I think everyone is also forgetting about Dunaden,” Dunlop said.
“He looks amazing, he’s a classy, classy horse – he could defy all the weight he’s got.”
