Side Glance Wins Mackinnon Stakes 2013 – Race Results

Side Glance has taken out the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington Racecourse today November 2, 2013.

The six-year-old won the race in impressive style ahead of Dear Demi, who placed a very strong second, and Moriarty, who finished in third position.

Side Glance has now won eight of his 30 race starts and has earned more than $1.8 million in prize money during his career.

The Passing Glance gelding placed sixth in the $3 million Cox Plate last start and jockey Jamie Spencer was full of praise for Craig Williams’ efforts in that race.

“He was a bit keen and I think the reason he won today is because Craig didn’t crucify him last week in the Cox Plate,” Spencer said.

The English jockey was thrilled to come to Australia and win one of the big feature races during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

“I can’t thank everybody enough. Everybody’s been so kind and welcoming,” he said.

“It’s a dream come true.”

Trainer Andrew Balding was at the track to witness Side Glance’s first Australian race win.

“(Spencer) gave him a beautiful ride,” said Balding.

“My concern was obviously running so soon after (the Cox Plate).

“It’s a great thrill.

“He’s always been a looker and he just gets better with age.”

Since Side Glance is not nominated for the 2013 Melbourne Cup, his automatic entry into the race for winning the Mackinnon Stakes will not be taken advantage of.

Jet Away’s disappointing sixth placing in the race means that he will not make the Melbourne Cup field and jockey Glen Boss may be left without a ride.
