Anthony Freedman has the Brisbane Winter Racing...
Chris Waller’s talented six-year-old Red Tracer is out to atone for her unplaced Victoria Derby Day effort last Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival having been nominated for Saturday’s Myer Classic 2013.
The daughter of Dane Shadow could only manage to finish three and a half lengths away 10th to Appearance in last year’s $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington.
She’s since won herself a Group 1 in the Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in Brisbane and will be back for another shot at the Myer this weekend.
Red Tracer has had the perfect lead-up to the event too improving on a first-up second to Sharnee Rose in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) in Sydney to win the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) by a breezy three lengths at Caulfield last start on October 19.
Third placed in the Tristarc was the Darren Weir-trained Ava’s Delight who is another one of the 15 mares nominated for the weight-for-age Myer Classic this Derby Day.
Waller meanwhile could be launching a three-pronged attack on the classic having also nominated for Red Tracer’s stablemates Arinosa and Catkins.
Dash For Cash grey Arinosa won the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick at the start of the month but wasn’t suited to Moonee Valley last Friday night when finishing dead last behind Buffering in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m).
Another grey, Dubawi four-year-old Catkins meanwhile had better luck at the Valley on Cox Plate Day winning the Group 3 Tesio Stakes over the mile by a length ahead of Cameo.
Along with Red Tracer and Catkins the other two last start winners nominated for the Myer Classic 2013 are then Agnst Stakes champ Sharnee Rose after her third on the trot having also won the Golden Pendant in September as a $51 outsider over Red Tracer and Roger James’ Zabeel mare Zonza who has also won her last two starts.
The other big name nominees then include Rob Heathcote’s recent Rose Of Kingston Stakes winner Fire Up Fifi coming off a fifth in the Tristarc, Ken Kelso’s New Zealand Group 1 winner Xanadu who was dead last in the Tristarc and the Peter Moody-trained Tattersall’s Taira third placed Floria second-up for the spring.
