Cox Plate 2013 Best Bets of the Day

After the Manikato Stakes Night action last night at Moonee Valley Racecourse, racing continues for day two of the Cox Plate Carnival with the team’s 2013 Cox Plate Day best bets detailed below.

It's A Dundeel

There’s a bumper 10 races on the Moonee Valley race card today, six of which are Group races not to miss.

Racing is due to kick off at 12:10pm (AEST) with the lucrative $250,000 Inglis Banner (1000m) for the Inglis Race Series qualified juveniles.

Of course only the daft will tune out before the last with Race 10 at 5:40pm (AEST) being the meeting’s marquee event – the $3 million Group 1 W.S. Cox Plate (2040m).

Earlier in the week we published our insider 2013 Cox Plate Day Betting Tips.

But to help you really clean out the bookies today and sort the ones you should back from the ones you should sack, here we take a closer look at our Cox Plate Day best bets.

In The Big One (Race 10) – 2013 Cox Plate

#11 It’s A Dundeel ($4.50 or $9 DTO)

They’re the easing favourite right out to $9 in’s exclusive Double The Cox Plate Odds promo and for us It’s A Dundeel is still the one to beat in today’s classic despite having suffered an earlier set back. A hoof abscess ruled them out of the Caulfield Stakes so they haven’t raced since beating retired one-time Cox Plate favourite Atlantic Jewel in the Underwood last month. It’s a while between runs then, which historically isn’t indicative of a Cox Plate win, but Murray Baker’s Kiwi is still the class horse with the five Group 1’s to boot.

Better Than Bank Interest (Race 5) – 2013 Mitchelton Wines Vase

#1 Savvy Nature ($2.10)

John O’Shea’s Victoria Derby-bound Savabeel gelding is nearing odds-on in betting for this Group 2 staying race for three-year-olds, and definitely looks the one to beat. They won the Spring Stakes at Newcastle two back before two brave minor placings behind Complacent, who is favourite for the $1.5 million Derby next Saturday. Most recent run was third in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, their first look at 2000m, so should have gotten a grip on the distance and handle the 2040m in Melbourne today.

Best Roughie Bet (Race 8) – 2013 Crystal Mile

#6 Blackie ($10)

So $10 isn’t real rough, but with five horses in the 10-horse field for this $220,000 Group 2 it still looks great value. Jarrod McLean’s Black Minnaloushe six-year-old faces some still competition including the Emirates Stakes-bound favourite Toydini, but they’ve got the lead-up form to suggest they’re capable of an upset here. Won over 1500m at Moonee Valley two back in a gun run before going up to the mile to run a brave third behind Solzhenitsyn in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap on October 12 as a $21 outsider. They’re back in class for this, over the mile again and shooting for their third Moonee Valley win since June.

Value Place Bet (Race 1) – 2013 Inglis Banner

#3 Beau Rada ($41)

In the first we are tipping the Anthony Cummings-trained Good Prince ($4.20) for the win following their lovely second on debut last start, but for value is WAY over the odds for us. When we tipped them to run second in this earlier in the week they were paying $26, they’ve since drifted right out to $41 and we’re more than happy to take that price on this Hard Spun gelding. Their fourth on debut at Flemington earlier in the month in the Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) was far from discouraging. They did that from barrier 10 (of 14) as a $51 roughie and from a better barrier (5) today can be competitive again and run top three in this adding nice value to the exotics.

To get behind our Cox Plate Day 2013 best bets at the best prices there’s only one place to go – as they are also giving first-time depositing customers a juicy bonus welcome bet valued up to $500 today!
