Set to run as Race 7 at 4:00pm (AEST), this year’s $150,000 Eastcoast Plumbtec Sale Cup (1600m) has drawn a big field of 14 hopefuls.

The top-rated and weighted hope with 58kg is the Tony McEvoy-trained Mouro.

Drawn out wide in gate 13, the American-bred Grand Slam stallion has had just 11 starts to date.

They’ve won four of those, including the Rowley Mile over the Hawkesbury mile back in May.

The five-year-old was also competitive in the Scone Cup during the winter when second to Speediness, and ran a first-up second at Caulfield last month.

McEvoy tested them at elite level last start in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) however they were outclassed when 11th behind the Brisbane-trained winner Solzhenitsyn.

Sunday then will be an enjoyable step back in class where Mouro, to be ridden by Nick Hall who returns from suspension, could prove hard to beat even with the big weight.

The next heaviest weighted hope is then a Nash Rawiller mount, Mutual Trust to carry 57.5kg.

The Mornington-based six-year-old is also stepping back in class here following two elite level runs.

The first was an 11th to Rebel Dane from barrier 16 of 16 in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last month, before their improved sixth in the Toorak as a $41 outsider.

Leading trainer of three-year-olds for the season Peter Snowden is also represented in this year’s Sale Cup by Chasse (barrier 11), the Octagonal gelding out to atone for their failed finish in the Kingston Town Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill back in September 14.

A couple of notable gallopers will resume in Sunday’s clash including the Colin & Cindy Alderson-trained Sea Galleon whose best work is usually over 2000m, and Peter Gelagotis’ rails-drawn eight-year-old Module who won the Bagot Handicap over 2800m at Flemington on New Year’s Day.

A dour stayer, Moudle hasn’t raced since January 12 when third behind Tuscan Fire in a 2500m handicap at Flemington, the mile on Sunday likely to be a bit sharp for the returning Reset veteran.

Other notable hopes then include Michael Moroney’s last start Caulfield mile winner from Guineas Day Rhythm To Spare who was fourth to Hawkspur in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) last season, and the Shane Bottomley-trained evergreen nine-year-old My Bentley in gate four with James Winks to ride.
