Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
David Hayes’ Group 1 performing three-year-old Gregers is nearing odds-on territory looking the filly to beat in tonight’s Moonee Valley Fillies Classic 2013 on Manikato Stakes’ evening.
Running as Moonee Valley Race 3 at 7:15pm (AEST), this year’s field for the $220,000 Group 2 Jeep Don’t Hold Back Fillies Classic (1600m) is down to just seven starters following the early scratching of #8 Navajo Run.
Clear and deserving favourite at a current quote of $2 in the Fillies Classic betting markets is then Gregers, the daughter of Commands drawn in gate four with Chad Schofield engaged.
A winner of four of her seven starts to date Gregers’ biggest success so far was her Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) victory at Caulfield last month.
She was last seen racing in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 16, her first look at the mile, and was far from disgraced when third to runaway winner Guelph.
She’ll enjoy the step back in class tonight and should have come on from the Guineas with a 1600m run behind her now.
Second best in betting at $4.40 and firming is then the early Fillies Classic market mover Scratchy Bottom.
Michael Kent’s untapped Sebring filly has had just the one start to date when debuting here at the Valley on October 4.
It was a promising winning effort over 1550m too, indication she’ll handle the mile as she’s bred to do.
Scratchy Bottom should also get the run of the race from barrier one with Dwayne Dunn staying on after riding her for her maiden victory.
The other two single figure fancies in the Fillies Classic odds at $8 are then recent Edward Manifold Stakes fourth placed grey Fantome Gris (barrier two) who comes back from 2000m after a 10th to Arabian Gold at Caulfield last Saturday, and Peter Moody’s last start Cranbourne winner Lady Tatia (barrier eight).
Rounding out the field and markets are then Thousand Guineas sixth placed Not A Single Doubt filly Gypsy Diamond ($12), So Bella Arella ($16) who is another last start Cranbourne winner and the Anthony Cummings-trained Federica ($18) stepping up to the mile for the first time – no genuine roughie in the open odds.
